Toshiba drives with the proprietary 50 pin interface can be connected to a Standard 3.5 inch IDE connection using the Toshiba 1.8 inch to 3.5 inch IDE adapter.
Fantastic article. Very helpful for any user who is unsure if his harddrive will work with these enclosures. Thanks Jordan!

I have a 1.8 Toshiba Drive that has been removed from a broken Archos player. The screen has cracked and no longer works. I have removed the hard drive and hope to purchase an enclosure for the drive and use it as an additional hard drive. Is this possible?
The connector is a male and the Drive is a MK8025GAS HDD2188 A.
Please reply.

Yes, this hard drive uses a 2.5 inch IDE connection. You can get the appropriate enclosure at http://sewelldirect.com/irocks2.5inchharddriveenclosure.asp.

I have toshiba MK3008gal which uses a ribbon connector for iPod video. It dose not use pin connectors, just wonder if you have any enclosure for it. Thanks!

i have a toshiba MK6008GAH that uses a ribbon for ipod video. are there any enclosures available for it? i’ve looked and have only seen the ones that use the pins

You may want to make sure that the ribbon cannot be removed to expose an IDE connection. If it can’t then you probably have a ZIF(zero insertion force) connection. Since ZIF connections are specific to mfg and device, you will need to contact Toshiba to see if they have an ide adapter for this HD.

i emailed toshiba and they told me they dont sell anything that would allow the ZIF, but they did give me a link to somewhere i could. anyways, i did find something but they sell it for $120 and is currently out of stock. if you want it, the link is http://www.kk-yec.com/products1.htm

I am a bit confused. I have the MK2003GAH 8.0 mm ATA 20 GB from an old v2 iPod. I want an external enclosure, USB2.0, bus-powered, which works full enclosed (i.e. not without the lid off!).
Do you have such a device?
Or should I purchase an adaptor to use e.g. an enclosure for a 2.5 inch drive?

Someone selling some ZIF to 2.5″ ide adapter on ebay lower than US$48.00 included shipping.

I think US$48.00 is very expensive .
