Gefen DVI Audio to HDMI Adapter

One of the big bonuses to the HDMI connection has been the integrated video and audio. This has created a giant headache for early hi-def adopters who now have a bunch of DVI equipment that require a separate audio connection to get the full multimedia experience. Since HDMI was released, there have been several DVI to HDMI converters, however, none of these converters could convert the additional sound input into a true A/V HDMI signal - a separate audio cable was still required. Enter Gefen’s DVI Audio to HDMI Adapter. This sweet piece of equipment is one of the first to convert separate DVI and audio signals into a single true HDMI signal with audio and video, compatible with virtually any HDMI display. Really, what more needs to be said?

What about a device that goes the other way round - including audio.
i.e. when the display device is DVI and the Theatre audio is digital audio coax, but source devices are HDMI, then you want to switch at the HDMI level so that video and audio are switched together, lastly split out the DVI video and the digital audio.
    Any devices known?

I haven’t seen anything that will split the HDMI signal into its separate audio and video components. The closest thing we have is the Gefen 4X1 HD Digital Audio Switcher. This switch connects video via HDMI (with a DVI out), but you have to connect the audio separately via TOSLink or S/PDIF.

This 4 port HDMI switch w/ 4x toslink & 4x Co-ax portswould do what you want combined with the right cables… Wouldn’t be as optimal as some sort of mythical HDMI audio/video splitter just by the display… (Just imagine the nightmare such a device would cause for the HDCP people ;).

I need the mythical splitter! Now with the PS3 feeding LPCM audio only out on HDMI there’ll be lots of us looking for a way to feed the audio into our coax inputs on our surround systems that don’t have hdmi. Unfortunately the PS3 will not send any hires audio out on optical so a switcher is useless. Please build the mythical splitter!!!

I also need a mythical splitter. I have a laptop with HDMI out and a projector that unsurprisingly does not handle audio. Without a zillion dollar amp replacement I have to use the lappy’s headphone output which really sucks when the digital audio is out there just begging to be listened to.
