Expresscard to PCMCIA adapter

8/8/07 Update: We’re happy to say that the Express Card to PCMCIA Adapter has been a huge hit. And now Duel Systems has come out with the PCMCIA to Express Card Adapter, the fiendishly stylish inverse of the Express Card to PCMCIA, this cradle allows you to use newer, slimmer Express Cards in older computers that have Cardbus (PCMCIA) slots.

PCMCIA to Express Card Adapter

5/25/07 Update: Sewell Direct finally has an ExpressCard to PCMCIA Adapter in stock. We currently have a healthy stock and plan to keep it this way. Our tech support reps report a surprisingly high success rate (considering how new the card is). A post on known incompatibility issues will be forthcoming, but we do offer a 30-day money back guarantee if you would like to purchase a card and see whether it works in your particular situation.

Express Card to PCMCIA Adapter

In a few weeks we will begin beta testing and adapter that will convert a Expresscard slot into a PCMCIA slot. Expresscard is the port on newer laptops used for addinging functionality to a computer. A lot of people don’t have an Expresscard solution for their computer. And so they turn to PCMCIA to make the right connection. Because it is newer technology we won’t know of too many compatibility issues right off. Saying that, the adapter is designed to work with all PCMCIA cards.

Also, I should say that we don’t have an exact release date.

Update: We talked to Duel Systems at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas and they have units in production. We hope to actually be shipping units very soon but we are currently at the mercy of the manufacturer. We have had a demo unit shipped to us and it seemed to work well. We had a couple of problems but these were reported to the manufacturer a couple months ago and we anticipate the problems to be worked out before it is released. No exact word on pricing yet but they will be significantly cheaper than the USB to PCMCIA solution.

  1. David Lewis Says:

I have an expresscard slot and software that requires a Rainbow Technologies Sentinel Scribe doggle in the parallel port. Are there any true parallel port expresscards or plans for one in the future.

I think this will solve my problem if I can convince the computer the expresscard slot is a parallel port location.

    thank you for your help.

  2. Eyner Ramirez Says:

There are some solutions on the way. There is a company named Sunix that is developing a parallel expresscard. This will provide the solution to security keys and dongles. Sunix also claims to have a true EEP and ECP Parallel to USB cable. If this cable proves to be true, then it will interface better with laptops and desktops. Even if it were at a higher price, it would beat having to buy a PCI , PCMCIA, and an ExpressCard. Keep an eye out for Sunix at http://www.sewelldirect.com .

  3. Jordan Says:

Last time I checked, the Sunix USB to Parallel adapter uses a prolific chipset which will only communicate with printers. Maybe they have changed the chipset they are using, but their site is acting goofy right now, so I can’t find out what chip they are using.

  4. David Lewis Says:

Thank you for the helpful comments and suggestions. It looks like I need to wait a bit longer but I now have options I did not have earlier.

  5. Sean Says:

Looks like Duel-systems has one under development also

  6. Walter Says:

    Hello
    This sounds great.
I need one for connecting the Cardbus of my RME HDSP to a MacBookPro’s ExpressCard/34 slot.
I hope you will develop such a tool wich will work propper for my Audi-Interface.$
    Thank you.
    With best regars,
    Walter

  7. Lewis Says:

FYI, Duel-Systems is the company we are working with to release the ExpressCard to PCMCIA adapter. They are promising pretty great things (inexpensive & platform-independent namely) so we’re excited to help them with their release. Current date is late June or early July, but that has been pushed back a couple times already. They should have a set date within the next week or so. I’ll keep everyone posted.

  8. Shawn Says:

What’s the latest news from Dual-Sytems about the expresscard to pcmcia converter? Still looking at a late june release?

    Thanks
    Shawn

  9. Lewis Says:

That is correct as of the last time I spoke with them (approximately a week ago), though they have yet to provide a hard schedule for beta testing, pricing, and a firm release date.

  10. Scott Says:

    Any timetable for release?
    Thanks

  11. Lewis Says:

As we kind of expected, though it’s not ideal, the release date did get pushed back. They’re looking at beta testing in July with an official release late July or early August. Go fig.

  12. Kyle Says:

Would this option work with pcmcia video cards? Currently I’m looking for a way to drive 2 DVI 1600×1200 monitors with a macbook pro. It seems like this could work using a pc card video card and the adapter, as well as using the DVI out on the internal card. (kind of a kludge, but I think its the only foreseeable solution) Also, about how much will the card sell for? Cheers.

  13. Jordan Says:

It should work fine with PCMCIA Video cards. It is designed to work with all PCMCIA cards. As for the cost, its hard to say, since we havent even received any from the factory. It should be lower in cost then a lot of similar other solutions, like the SW-4772. But it’s hard to say.

  14. Steve Says:

I am in the exact same position as Lewis. I have CNC software that requires a Rainbow Technologies Sentinel Scribe driver key on a parallel port. Of course no luck with port replicators and no docking station is available for my pc. Very fustrating… Please keep all of us posted on any solutions. Thanks!

  15. David Lewis Says:

It looks like the Dual-Sytems about the expresscard to pcmcia converter is still my best bet but I would have preferred just one device. Perhaps someday. I too am looking forward to the introduction.

I don’t if it will help Steve but I have a Kensington device that plugs into a USB port which has an ethernet, parallel (printer only), monitor plug and several USB ports for key boards, mouse etc. It works pretty well with my Dell. (I have connected it to a monitor as yet as it came with a stand that allow me to use my dell laptop screen). I think you can find these on Kensington’s web site.

  16. Apratim Says:

Can we have a ExpressCard Slot to PCMCIA slor converter? Is there any device like that available by Aug in market for use in notebooks?

  17. Paddy Says:

I’m in the same position as Walter. I have an RME pcmcia Cardbus audio interface that I would like to use on a MacBook Pro.

Any update on the release of this adapter? After buying the MacBook Pro, I’m very keen not to shell out another $1000 for a new (slower) FW400 interface.

    Thanks in advance!

  18. Kyle Says:

Any advancement on this card or a date when it will be available?

  19. LaiNoL Says:

same position, but with a e-mu 1616m. Waiting for duel…

  20. Francis Says:

Same position with pcmcia TV card … waiting for good news !
Manufacturer (DELL in my case) give only Express card and you loose all your invest and R&D with PCMCIA !

  21. Bobby Says:

Same position as lot’s of DJ’s in that I have upgraded to high spec DEll laptop but they ONLY offer an ExpressCard slot! they have stoped PCMCIA / CardBus even though there are hardly any ExpressCard devices available or in development. Come on DUEL … please!

  22. clark jenkins Says:

any update on time table for adapter to convert express slot to pcmcia?

  23. Lewis Says:

I have an alpha version of the ExpressCard to PCMCIA adapter sitting on my desk. It’s a pretty little number, for sure. We’re still looking at 2-3 weeks beta testing and 5-7 weeks for full development, but we’ve had that date pushed back several times already, so don’t hold your breath (I’d like to see who could hold their breath for 5-7 weeks anyway).

  24. Kyle Says:

meh, in 3 months there will be an expresscard vid card, or at least I’ll have given up on the whole thing.

  25. Oliver Says:

We’re in the same position as others here, in that we have a 3G/2.5G modile data PCMCIA card and our new Dell laptops can’t take it as its Expressbus!! None of the UK mobile phone companies are even offering Expressbus cards yet! They are just introducing a USB solution, but I don’t want something dangling off my laptop when i trying to move around. for those interested the USB-to-PCMCIA is being offered by ELAN (U111-530/630) (www.elandigitalsystems.com) for about £70. I’m waiting for the Expressbus-to-PCMCIA card - please, please hurry developers!

  26. Shamit Khemka Says:

Have you got a converter working as yet?

  27. Alexandra Says:

Is this ExpressCard to PCMCIA adapter available yet? I have a Dell E1505 and it just has the Express Card slot :O(

  28. Sean Says:

Still looking forward to seeing this product as and when available, any updates on the release yet guys ??

    TIA

  29. Tom Peldunas Says:

Also interestred in a converter or ExpressCard Parallel adapter to handle a Rainbow Tech key.

  30. Lyn Says:

Any news on the cardbus/pcmcia to express adapter. I need to upgrade my laptop but the model I want only has express and I need card bus for 3g mobile card.

  31. Simon Says:

    This all sounds too familiar.
I have a dell laptop with express card slot but I need a parallel port for a sentinel super pro software dongle. Does anyone know if anything has been developed yet to solve this problem?

  32. Dan Says:

This will be awesome when it’s available, thanks guys! I too have an RME Multiface with Cardbus that I’d love to put into my new MacBook Pro!

  33. andrew Says:

i’m also looking for an ExpressCard/34 to Parallel solution for a Sentinal dongle.

  34. cwolf78 Says:

I have the Dell E1505 and I need to operate an aircard … will this do the trick ?

  35. Lewis Says:

Most recent update: The ExpressCard to PCMCIA adapter will fit in any 34 or 54 slot, but it does have a cable that will hang off of it, connecting it to a PCMCIA dock. I have been informed that we’re looking at end of next week for beta testers. This means we’re probably looking at late October/early November for official release. We’re just as anxious as you guys are, I promise.

  36. Karl Hansen Says:

I would be willing to beta. Just picked up a new HP laptop with the 54 slot and need an adaptor post-haste. If being in a beta program would get me early access I would be very willing.

  37. Marc P Summers Says:

Also urgently needing this card adaptor - happy to beta test.

    contact details are 077930 55565

    Marc

  38. Tom Peldunas Says:

Also happy to Beta Test for use with a Rainbow Tech hardware key.

  39. Sean Says:

Would be more than happy to become a beta tester for you guys, I am in desperate need for this product so I can use my data card in my new Dell.

  40. Craig Says:

I will beta test for this also in the us with sprint wireless bban card

  41. Rob Says:

Just bought a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS for a new Dell XPS 1710 laptop and found it won’t work with the laptop’s expresscard slot. Would be happy to test the adapter since they don’t make expresscard versions yet.

  42. Summit Says:

I am also looking for an ExpressCard with a DB-25 Parallel port for use with a security dongle. Any help?? I have been trying to find one for months now.

  43. Darrell Says:

I’d love to beta this. i applied to beta the duel-systems one, but i got no response. i got a AverMedia tv tuner from newegg.com, and after i ordered it i realized what i thought was cardbus was this ‘expresscard’ thing, which i’d never heard of.

so now i have an amazing tv tuner that i can’t use. I’d be thrilled to beta this adapter, feel free to email me.

  44. Darrell Says:

    is this thread still alive?

  45. Sean Says:

    I sure hope so Darrell….

  46. Kurtis Says:

Is this adapter still going to be produced?
I have another DELL e1505 and have endless PCMCIA components that will basically be obsolete if I can’t find an adapter….

  47. Darrell Says:

duel systems just took down the application to beta their adapter. i’m not sure if that means they’re finishing the beta or what, but i really hope this adapter is produced. i’m on the verge of returning my video tuner and buying an HP expresscard one that i’m not sure whether or not is compatible with my laptop.

    i really want this adapter

  48. Tom Peldunas Says:

Any update on the status of this adapter?

  49. Vikash Says:

Upgraded from a Dell Inspiron 8600 to a Dell Inspiron E1405 and now left with no PCMCIA slot to use my Creative Audigy2 ZS sound card!:( Have a great sound card and a great 5.1 speakers lying around for waste because of this whole ExpressCard thing! When will this adapter be ready?

  50. Dan Keohane Says:

I have a PCMCIA tv tuner. My Dell Inspiron 1300 only has an expresscard slot.Anyone know of a solution?

  51. raynardo Says:

I’ve got two notebooks. The latest is a Dell B130 which uses an Expresscard. I’d like to use my Verizon 640 Express card in my Dell Inspiron 8600. So I’m looking for a PCMCIA adapter which will allow me to put the Expresscard into it. Any ideas?

  52. Jim Says:

Really looking forward to this adapter; I’m in the same Dell-with-ExpressCard boat. Seems like they jumped in before there was much hardware available.

  53. neo Says:

in the same boat guys!!!! what the hell? the dell computers should have supplied some kindof slot which could fit in both the pcmcia and express card… heh… i dont know the technical aspects of such a universal slot if its possible to make such a thing!!

  54. Aren Says:

Is there a laptop ExpressCard or PCMCIA card yet that will enable display of laptop video files on HDTV set with DVI & HDMI ports. Would like to have digital signal to TV vice VGA/SVGA analog input for better picture resolution?

    Thank you

  55. Richard Says:

The Dell D820 has both a CardBus slot and a ExpressCard slot.

  56. Psykoman Says:

this hole stuff Sucks express card crap there why do they sell thats stuff and there arent even any good cards out yet!!! and best on top no adapters for the older pcmcia cards when is a good adapter comming out that also runs under linux!! greats from germany!!

  57. Nathan Bemo Says:

I have a PCMCIA Sprint Card that I need to use in my new Dell ExpressCard Slot. The dude at the Sprint store told me that Dell has ‘em and Dell hooked another one of his customers up with one. I’ll call in the morning to see if this is true.

  58. Kyle Says:

So have you given up on this yet or what? It’s been 6 months, please give us an update.

  59. Jeff Phaup Says:

I am also interested in a release date.

Also Nathan Bemo. Did you find out if the info you heard about the Dell expresscard slot is true?

  60. Bradley Says:

got the p2 card (PCMCIA) set-up with my Pano hvx200 and want to upgrade to a macbook pro (EXPRESSCARD) but can’t make the jump until there is an adapter. Please update about possible availability. I would say there is def a desire for this. hook it up.

  61. NOW Says:

HEY GUYS GET THIS BAD BOY RELEASED… YOU’VE HAD LONG ENOUGH!!!

  62. Jenny Scogin Says:

I recently had to upgrade and purchased new Hp notebook. I will be grateful to beta-test. I need to connect my Aladdin Hasp dongle to connect to my software. Am desperate.

  63. Bobby Says:

I’m beta testing now. It works great!

  64. Ray Maynard Says:

Any news on when, Where and How much yet?

  65. Dave Carter Says:

I can almost bet that this adapter will be released after the holiday season. All those people looking to upgrade new laptops purchased over the holiday with only expresscard slot. They will find this eventually, as for the rest of us we have been waiting long time. Ignorance is bliss.

  66. Dave Carter Says:

I have one question for beta testers testing audio cards. Will this Adapter allow lower buffer settings than the old cardbus controller with same card. In particular the Echo Indigo IO or Audigy zs notebook, Hammer Fall, EMU 1616, etc. Thanx for your input.

  67. Uli Says:

Man, I’m in the exact same sitiuation as Nathan Bemo. I’ve spent hours scouring google and this looks like my best shot so far. I’ll also try contacting sprint….tommorow. Curse you Thanksgiving Day!

  69. Uli Says:

It would be nice if my Novatel S720 were on the supported list that adapter.

Sprint has no adapter available, however the Novatel u720 usb EVDO modem will be released before the end of the year if they can get the FCC’s approval in time..

  70. Tom Peldunas Says:

This new adapter is nice for wireless modems. Is anything in the works for us poor slobs who require other devices, such as LPT adapters?

  71. whatever Says:

you guys suck for not keeping your prospective customers informed

  72. Rob Says:

Is there any word on when this will be released? It’s definitely “Late 2006″ now, and apparently there are other options out there (USB).

  73. Lewis Says:

I’ll post this up top, too, but I wanted to make mention here for any of you following this thread. We are still in the beta testing phase at this time. The most recent dates I’ve received from Duel indicated that these should be ready for release a couple weeks after beta. However, with their track record of giving us dates, I wouldn’t hold your breath. It *is* getting closer and it *is* still being developed, but I’m not sure what to say for a final release. It’s been postponed so many times that I’m also hesitant to give any official dates. I know they were really aiming to get these out by year’s end, but they also planned on September at one point. So, there you have it. We all at Sewell Direct apologize on their behalf but we do want to assure that it’s still in development and we will be on the short list of distribution channels, so keep your eyes open and thanks for your patience.

  74. Jenny Scogin Says:

    Please let me beta test.

  75. GREG Says:

Any answers on a Dell Expresscard to PCMCIA adapter. E1705 with a Linksys WKPC54G Wireless Router. “Anybody”

  76. Matt Says:

I am absolutely dying to get my hands on this. It takes about an hour to move only 7 gigs of Panasonic P2 data thru the crummy USB2 interface to my new Macbook Pro. At this rate of transfer it is three times slower than real time. I bought the HVX 200 because I wanted to save time, and I am so pissed off. Light a fire under under those buttcheeks, or ram a boot into them, I dont care. Those guys at Duel had better not be taking weekends off untill this is shipping.

  77. Carl Summers Says:

How can you get in on the beta test? I need to run a T-Mobile Ericson G-89 on a Lenovo 3000 V100 laptop. Will this work with your new adapter?

    Dr. Summers

  78. Mike Says:

Hmm I just bought a Smart TV Card that is PCMCIA and realized my laptop has Expresscard. I’ll be looking forward to this new product coming out. Hopefully sooner then later!! :) I’ll be more(!) then happy to beta tester and give feedback!! Although I’m sure you have enough people working on it. But then again nobody has the Smart TV Card like I do!! Alright keep up the good work!

  79. Denise P Boomer Says:

Hey I wish I knew this board was out here about 4 days ago!!! I’ve spent every waking minute trying to figure out how to get my sexy new tmobile sonyericsson 89 hooked up to my Dell expresscard. HA! As a last resort for a desperate woman - is there any way that anyone knows of to hook up my old laptop’s cardbus into this one? I don’t care if the guts of my pc r strewn about, can I yank my expresscard for now & by chance plug my pc card in, even if there’s no bay for it in my new one?? Like I said, I’m desperate here (and tired of screaming at Dell & tmobile as well!!!) Denise

  80. Igor Says:

    Hi

I’m in the same boat, but slightly differently… I am going to upgrade to a new Dell XPS and would like my audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA card to be usable on it, as my whole home theatre system is based on it…
I wish there was a pre-order list where people could show there interest and hence the company could be certain of at least a few orders when the product is complete. Will be keeping a close eye on this…

  81. Jimmy T Says:

Well, Duel System website says that the Expresscard to CardBus adapter “will be out by late 2006″. It this isn’t late 2006. So, I hope they will let it out the gates any day now.

I’m sure they just want to make sure that it works correctly. So, I don’t mind waiting for a functional item rather than to get a half-ass product right away. Although, I REALLY HOPE THIS ADAPTER IS NOT PRICED REDICULOUSLY! PLEASE MAKE IT AFFORDABLE (less than $50)!

  82. Jimmy T Says:

Check this out! Looks like there might be a very affordable solution, but I don’t know if it will support 32-bit Cardbus PCMCIA cards.

    http://www.pcloft.com/cofltopccaco.html

  83. psykoman Says:

and hast anybody tryed this adapter before?? looks ok looks ok just has too work right

  85. Anonymous Says:

You know what’d be even better? An expresscard to DUAL cardbus adapter. I’d love to see one of those.

  86. Glenn Boswell Says:

I’d pay for the opportunity to test the device. I have several pcmcia cards (16 & 32) and one of my notebooks only has an express card slot.

  87. Cameron Says:

So what is the story with this card? Any ETA on the release? I’ve got work to do! :)

  88. H. O'Donnell Says:

I just got a new dell notebook with no Parallel port, but I require one for an old lpt dongle! The only ExpressCard to lpt port i can find is over 200 euro. Can anyone tell where to buy a cheaper one.

  89. Douglas F. Santana Says:

So, I have the same problem as Mike, I bought a pcmcia card PixelView Play TV Mobile - http://webbuilder2.asiannet.com/1470/style/content/CN-08-2cp2/product_detail.asp?lang=2&customer_id=1470&name_id=36165&rid=17009&id=75371
and my laptop (HP Pavillion dv1000) has a express card.

I would like to know if is it possible to be a Beta Tester ? I can to pay for do that, I really need one adapter like that.

    Regards,

    Douglas

  90. J. Paquette Says:

I sent an email with questions about a specific card - not wireless (E-MU Audio) - but haven’t received a response. It seems to me that they would want to get these out and tested with as broad a base of cards as possible.

    Any other thoughts on this?

  91. e.lowery Says:

Is duel-systems the only company that is developing a pcmcia to express card adapter? If so, any current updates on when it will be available, and the price?

  92. Kyle Says:

    Hi,
Thanks for the update, I hope the beta is going well. If you need any more testers I can test MacBook pro -> adapter -> vtbook. I know at least a dozen people waiting for this specific setup, so I imagine the market consists of thousands.

  93. John Says:

Hey guys, any updates on this project yet??

  94. Jimmy Says:

I have an E-MU 1616M Audio Card as well and it will only work with the PCMCIA 32-bit cardbus solution. I hope to God this Duel adapter will allow it to work with an ExpressCard slot. I can beta test if necessary.

  95. Jimmy Says:

So, I just noticed that Duel Systems is considering charging around $114 for this Expresscard To PCMCIA adapter. WHY THE HECK WOULD WE PAY ANYWHERE CLOSE TO A HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THIS WHEN WE COULD BUY A WHOLE NEW EXPRESSCARD FOR WHATEVER WE NEED?!?!

Most people who want this thing are wanting it so they can use it to run their old PCMCIA wireless card. Why pay an extra $80-$100 bucks to run old PCMCIA technology when you can spend about $150 for a whole new expresscard unit and sell your old one off?

In light of that, their pricing will make no sense if it is anywhere close to a hundred dollars.

  96. kaspar Says:

One group of users very happy to pay $100 for this adapter are people with Panasonic’s P2 cards (storage cards used by professional video cameras) . Users who have upgraded to MBP’s have lost the ability to transfer data directly into their laptops. Alternative solutions are
    a) Old laptop
    b) Panasonic card reader ($1000+)
    c) using your expensive camera for file transfers instead of making money with it

$100 is pretty cheap for these guys

  97. Uli Says:

I would love to have this adapter, but if the price rivals that Sprint’s new EVDO expresscard, I may just buy the card.

  98. Uli Says:

Duel has announced the adapter for preorder now, expects to start shipping in about 1 month.

  99. Lewis Says:

Sorry to everyone for the delays in keeping you updated on the adapter. There is now a post explaining that we are finally carrying the ExpressCard to PCMCIA adapter from Duel. Right now it is a pre-order item with the first units hopefully shipping in approx. 2 weeks. I personally apologize again for the delays in keeping you all informed. I dropped the ball on that one. Anyway, I hope this proves to be a solution for any and all of you looking for such an adapter. Thanks for your patience.

  100. James M Says:

Well, count me in in the crowd that has a Dell 1505 with a USELESS Expresscard slot! OMG what were they thinking by equiping these laptops with this useless slot??? Well, I also have a Slot II Air Card that is now useless. But I have come up with a workaround until this converter is ready and a little more cheaper. I have a USB to CompactFlash adapter, then will put the CompactFlash to PCMCIA adapter on! What a Frankenstien I have to make to get this Aircard to work. Thanks Dell for giving us that junk!

  101. jinja Says:

I have an EMU 1616m and a BENq Laptop with xpress card and have just got hold of the dualadaptor, I have had no problems so far, latency is as good as it was before (no better though, if you were thinking it might improve speed of transfer) @ 4ms. ins and outs all are working so all is good to go here, hopefully creaive will pull their fingers out of their ears and release a dsp chip in xpresscard format soon.

  102. Felix Says:

Has anybody properly set up the DuelAdapter with RME’s HDSP cardbus audio hardware on a Mac Book Pro? There seem to be a couple of people here with this exact setup. I recieved my duel-adapter a while ago but can’t get it to work properly. Audio I/O is all distorted, sound is like a bit-depth of 1 or 2 bits only…
    thanks.

  103. Jordan Says:

You may want to make sure that the switch on the adapter is set to A. The A side of the switch is for Mac, while the B side of the switch is for PC. The only other thing that could be causing this problem is compatibility or defect. But to be truthfule, the fact that it is working at all suggests an incompatibility. Keep checking back for updated drivers to see if the problem is fixed.

    Thanks,

    Jordan

  104. Felix Says:

My Duel-Adapter is set to ‘A’ position to work with my Mac.
In the forum of the manufacturers website of my cardbus card (www.rme-audio.com) I came across other people having the same issues. It appears to be a problem with RME’s driver for IntelMac, which doesn’t support floating point conversion for digital audio, yet. The admin says that this will be fixed with the next driver update. Hopefully this will eliminate the problem.

  105. Cam Bamber Says:

To jinja specifically, I too have a 1616M but mines connected to a HP Pavillion DV6000. And it doesn’t work. For some reason only 16-bit mode does (according to Windows!), I’ve contacted Duel Systems: they said they’re aware of the problem and are working on a firmware fix but god knows how long that will take.

Good news from Jinja that it’s working with an E-Mu 1616.

I had the same problem with my new Dell laptop. Went to plug in the E-Mu and “whoops.”

I’ve got the adapter on order, and hope I have the same success that Jinja did.

  107. dbett Says:

…but of course bad news from Cam.

Well I’ll post my experience with a Dell XPS laptop.

  108. dbett Says:

Well it’s working for me. Yay!

That’s on a Dell XPS M1710. I installed the latest DuelSystems driver and made sure to uninstall all the drivers and software for the built-in soundcard.

    But it works.

Do note that according to the E-Mu folks the DuelAdapter has issues when you try and use the 1616’s built in effects. But I doubt most people use those anyway since you can always apply the various effects after the fact on the computer. So it really is only an issue if you are using it for live performances, which doesn’t really seem to be what it’s for.

This thing is driving me crazy!! I have a POS Dell XPS M1210, and bought the Duel Adapter to use with it, and the laptop keeps recognizing it as a “PCI to CardBus Bridge”. I’ve tried two of them now, and the problem is somewhere in the driver, I think. Each time I plug it in, the laptop acts like it is new and unrecognized hardware. Any ideas?!?

What operating system are you using? Do you have the switch on the bottom set to A or B? What card are you using with it? If you purchased it from Sewell Direct, you are welcome to contact them for technical support. The number is 800.709.1345. Duel-systems also provides tech support for that part. I need Help Before i buy a duel adapter.
I have Dell Inspirion E1505 with express card slot. I used to have a Inspirion 6000 but it went in for repair and thet could’t repair since dell stoped making laptops wit PCMCIA card slots. So that made my E-MU 1616 usless when they sent me a difrent computer.

My question is: Has anyone used a Duel Adapter For the E-mu 1616 audio interface… on a Windows xp.

    And does it work??

  112. Larry Says:

anyone try the adapter with the sony ericsson GC89 (t-mobile internet access)?

  113. Jordan Says:

Yes, it has been tested with that card, nad has been working.

  114. Jordan Says:

That last comment was for Larry. I havent seen it tested with the Emu 1616 Audio interface.

  117. Ganesh Says:

Has anyone succeeded in using DuelAdapter in HP DV6000 series?

I just want to know before I buy.

  118. Jordan Says:

The HP 6000 and 9000 series laptops have problems with the adapter. The problem with it is that the computer is set to only allow detection of 1 device through the expresscard slot at a time. The Duel-Systems adapter installs as multiple devices. If HP were to change that setting(by upgrading the BIOS) then it would probably work fine.

  119. will Says:

I have an HP pavilion tx1000 tablet, no worky for me anyone else who has the same prob should bug the hell out of HP maybe they will do something with their BIOS before I just return their laptop. anyone know anything new about a bios update?

  120. Jonas Lonnroth Says:

I need to use a Sentinel Pro Dongle which is for parallell ports. I used a Trans digit pcmcia card to parallell adapter, but then my Vaio TX2 laptop was stolen. The new TZ21 only has PC expressbus.
Full EPP is needed for the dongles to work.
Quatech.com has a pc express to parallell dongle which is said to be full EPP.

    http://transdigital.net

but as said they don’t have a pc express card.

    Go here: http://www.quatech.com/catalog/expresscard.php

Look for their SPPXP-100 high performance EPP parallell port card (149 USD)

I haven’t had the opportunity to test yet but according to specs it should work.

Btw, upgrade your sentinel dongle drivers:

    http://www.safenet-inc.com

Or could a USB to PCMCIA adapter work??

  121. Jordan Says:

The USB to PCMCIA adapter will not work with the PCMCIA parallel cards on its own as its only designed to work with specific cards(we have had some other cards work, but they are the exception rather than the rule). The Quatech Parallel expresscard should work fine. They have two versions of the parallel expresscard, the higher end version is the only one that will work with security dongles. That unit is at http://sewelldirect.com/Quatech-Parallel-Express-Card-Performance-Series-1-port.asp.
The instructions for getting several security dongles to work are at http://www.sewellsupport.com/archives/quatech-parallel-pcmcia-card-with-security-dongles.

One thing that many people don’t realize about cable TV is that many of the same companies that supply cable TV can also provide digital phone service and high speed Internet service as well….
