Just last week we had a customer that had looked several places for a DVI PS2 KVM switch to work with his Microsoft Elite Wireless Combo(w/ wireless intellimouse). He had received mixed answers as to whether such a device would be compatible with his wireless mouse and keyboard. After testing a similar scenario, we told him that it should work fine, but that we had not tested it with that exact combination. Well, he just received his KVM and says that it is working beautifully.

Our VGA KVM also works with wireless devices. I have personally used it with a Belkin ps2 wireless combo, and that worked great. If you are unsure that yours will work, then give it a try. If it does work, then great. If not, then get it authorized for a return. The only real compatiblity problems I’ve seen are when the wireless combo is going through one ps2 connection(rare), or when it is a USB wireless combo with multiple functions on the keyboard and mouse.

This is great information - by the way, Jordan, have we had any problems with the DVI KVM Switches? I have read about some problems that people have had with DVI KVM switches in general (ie, the resolution being scaled down, etc.) - I’m wondering if we’ve seen anything similar?

I haven’t heard of any problems as of yet. The maximum resolution for the switch is 1600 x 1200 @ 60Hz. This is great resolution even with bigger screens. If customers have a projector or a larger screen that they are concerned about resolution problems with, then they might want to use our Gefen KVM Switch. The resolution on that puppy is 1920 X 1200 @ 60Hz.

Does a 4 cpu kvm work with multiple moniters? In my situation i have two monitors hooked up to one of the computers and one to the other, will this screw up how the kvm works? any ideas.

Hi there.

I have wireless combo “Logitech MX5000 Bluetooth Laser Desktop” and can’t find a USB KVM switch to work with it. Every USB switch is has separate input USB ports - one for mouse and one for the keyboard, although on the output there is only one USB port for both devices. It works fine if I connect separate mouse and keyboard, but if I use combo where kayboard and mouse share one USB port the KVM switch doesn’t recognize at least one of them. Is there any KVM switch that supports keyboard/mouse wireless combo?

Thanks,

John

I am having the same issue as Djuro above. Has anyone found a KVM switch that supports this?

Thanks,

I have an IOGEAR Symphony GCS1774 (4-port KVM), and my old Logitech MX Duo worked fine by plugging the single USB output into the Keyboard input on the KVM. With the MX5000, however, I find that if I plug into the keyboard input, I get no mouse. If I plug into the mouse input, both work but I loose the KVM hotkeys.

In response to several of the above comments:

Rob, Having multiple monitors on one of the stations will not cause any problems with the KVM switch. The monitor that is only connected to one of the computers will just stay on the computer.

Djuro and John, There are KVM switches that should work with your non standard keyboard/mouse combo. The KVM just needs to support all USB devices. Most KVMs just support plain old keyboards and mice. As an example the unit at http://sewelldirect.com/Intellinet-DVI-KVM-Switch-With-Audio-2-port.asp supports USB devices. So do the KVMs at http://sewelldirect.com/Linkskey-Dual-Monitor-KVM-Switch-DVI-VGA-with-7-1-Surround-Sound.asp and http://sewelldirect.com/Enhanced-DVI-USB-KVM-Switch-4port.asp.

Eric, I suspect that your problem is somehow related to John’s and Djuro’s problem. However, I do not know too much about the GCS1774. So I cannot say for sure.

If anyone finds a KVM that for sure works without any extra fiddling please post back. I have the MX5000 set and a 2port Belkin Flip. It sorta works if you tinker with it. I don’t think it’s necessarily the KVMs fault though. The MX5000 set is Bluetooth and it the kb/mouse can’t be paired but with one device at a time. I guess if the KVM was smart enough to emulate whatever is plugged into v/s just a plain USB kb it might help but I can’t swear to it.

I love the MX5000 but I have to have a KVM that works. If anyone finds one for sure I’d certainly be ordering it.

Hi, I have the MX5000 and need to use the KVM too. I asked Belkin and they said F1DG102U KVM flip should work … Anybody have the same combination and work???

I have the MX5000 and belkin wireless flip…

I sware it was all working for a period of time, but maybe it wasn’t. Because now like “MrDoh” says, you can only pair one computer at a time.

So, I guess I will be returning the MX5000 since the COMPusa guy said it would work. And I’m not even using the mouse…I have a trackball, so I didn’t even hook up the mouse that came with the MX5000.

Logitech MX 5000
Cables To Go USB KVM Switch

I have been using a Logitech MX Duo for about two years with the Cables To Go USB KVM switch. It has worked great; I used the PS2 port for the mouse connection and the USB port for the keyboard. The KVM I use has an auto-sensing USB hub which is great for sharing USB devices between computers.

My MX Duo broke and I replaced it with the MX5000. I was excited to upgrade to Bluetooth technology but found this to be the root-cause of compatibility issues in using the MX5000 with ANY otherwise functional KVM with USB support. By switching system via the KVM, the Bluetooth connection would be severed and then would try and re-connect (sometimes successfully, sometimes not.) If the connection was successful, it generally took up to a minute for the switch between PC’s to complete (too long.) The MX Duo could complete the switch in about 2-3 seconds.

I spoke with Logitech support (I feel they are an excellent provider of Tech support) to see what their thoughts were. We concluded that the Bluetooth was the reason for the device connection issues when switching PC’s. The MX Duo worked off Logitech’s “Fast RF” wireless technology. I asked what wireless technology MX 3200 uses, since it’s the closest to the 5000. It uses the same as the MX Duo (Fast RF) which I have confirmed to work with a USB-KVM.

Bottom line: If you are using a KVM, your best bet is to stay away from sharing the Bluetooth mini-receiver between PC’s. It’ll cost you 3 hours of troubleshooting with no good result.

Marco, many thanks for your experience.
So, i bougth the mx3200 set due to the use of RF technology and You can confirm me that this wireless set will work with any general usb KVM switch without taking into account in wich port on the KVM box i will attach the miniusb receiver, correct?

If yes, i have now to understand if i can use, and if yes whay!, any other logitech wireless mouse based on rf technology with the same minireceiver (in other words i have a G7 mouse and i would lik to use the g7 + mx3200 keyboard + g7 receiver) because there is no “connect” key on the receiver!
